Clarrie Burns, father of Neville, shovelling hail stones from his driveway at 13 Warrandyte Road, Ringwood in the late 1950s. Clarrie worked for Ringwood City Council as Superintendent of Works. In the image, number 11 Warrandyte Road was Sherman's house, number 9 the Haywards, then (hidden) the Salvation Army citadel.

Education Minister Don Hayward has announced that 52 metropolitan primary schools ansd 10 secondary colleges will close befoere the start of the 1994 school year.A total of 159 schools will be closed across Victoria, 59 of which will be achieved through school mergers. The Opposition leader John Brumby condemned the school closures and said it was a precursor to more funding cuts within the education system. "The quality provision process has never been anything more than a euphemism for school closures" he said.

The education of more than 300 Ringwood Primary School pupils has been thrown into turmoil following the State Government's announcement to close two local schools.Ringwood East and Norwood primary schools were told last Friday they would close at the end of the year. The principals are not happy.

Wih the State Government's position well known on school mergers, "The Mail" surveyed Maroondah's schools on the same subject. Most of the surveyed schools said they knew nothing of any planned mergers, or they did not wish to comment. No school said they were in favour of mergers in Maroondah.

Guest Presenter Dennis Johnston was named 2023 Maroondah Citizen of the Year for his long-standing involvement with and contribution to Biala, Ringwood. This organisation is dedicated to providing support and care for special needs children and their family.

Ringwood CWA was formed on 7th March in 1946 in the small town hall, with 65 Foundation members. Even in the first meeting, there was a competition for the best scones and tomatoes. The consensus was to meeting monthly on the first Thursday. In this presentation, Lorraine Zimmerman talks of the history and some of the activities of Ringwood's CWA branch.

Celebrated in 1989 on Sunday 10th September.

Two catalogues of goods to sell, from Ringwood Timber & Trading

Editorial of 15201b includes a short history of the company. In 1937, Mr S Coopersmith and son, Frank (the present Managing Director) started a fruit case manufacturing business in North Melbourne under the name of The Cooper Case Co. The business flourished, and in 1940, recognising the possibilities in and around Ringwood, an old bush sawmill and an area of land on the Maroondah Highway, were secured. Subsequent purchases have since increased this area to approximately 15 acres. It was decided to widen the activities and scope of the business and two new firms were formed. Cooper Sawmilling Co., which operated a modern sawmill, and Ringwood Timber & Trading Co., which handled the output of the sawmill and introduced builders' and general hardware lines to meet the demands of this rapidly expanding area. Accompanying letter dated 26 January, 1962 from Supreme Grand Chapter of Victoria informing of the promotion and letter dated 24th April, 1962 from District Recorder, Mornington, outlining completion of formalities and wearing of 30 degree regalia on remittance of £15-15-0 fee.

Blue postmarked Airmail/Air Letter from Grand Council, O.S.M. London, dated 13th April, 1959 to A.J.B. Aird regarding accepting the Office of Past Grand Standard Bearer and ability to attend the Grand Conclave Meeting for Investiture on 13th June, 1959, at the Cafe Royal, London.

Clearance certificate and covering letter - Brother Alan Aubrey Williams, Master Mason, ceased to be a member of Prince of Wales Mark Lodge No.8 under the United Grand Lodge of Antient, Free and Accepted Masons of Victoria and is clear of all dues. Dated at St.Kilda on 31st March, 1943. Covering letter addressed to Brother Williams signed by Norman Wright, Secretary, 12th April, 1942.

Clearance certificate - Allan Aubrey Williams, Master Mason, ceased to be a member of United Grand Lodge of Antient, Free and Accepted Masons of Victoria and is clear of all dues. Dated at North Carlton on 21 February, 1928.

Two buff coloured certificates with purple seal. Certification that Brother Arthur James Bromwich Aird, being properly qualified as a Mark Master Mason and Royal Arch Mason, was - (a) duly acknowledged as a Most Excellent Master, and (b) received and greeted as a Royal Select and Super Excellent Master - in the Melbourne Council No. 56 on 1st November, 1955 & recommended to the notice, attention and protection of all illustrious and well beloved companions throughout the globe.
