The monopoly by senior citizens clubs over the three centres in Ringwood has been broken. Ringwood coucil has allowed all senior citizedns groups to be represented on its senior citizens' consultative committee.

Mayor, Cr Greg Adkins, plans to write to Attorney General, Mrs Jan Wade, to try and ensure Ringwood does not lose proposed new law courts as well as a new police station. Cr Adkins said it appeared from comments by senior police to him in the last fortnight there might be "moves to hi-jack our courts complex to Knox".

Ringwood Council has not given up on securing a new police station and law courts complex for Ringwood, although a previous $20 million proposal was axed by the State Gocernment in January. Council chief executive, Mr John Paech, said he met last week with Police and Justice Department staff to try to resurrect a proposal for new police and court facilities to be built in Ringwood.

At the request of the Society For Growing Australian Plants, Ringwood Council has agreed to buy a vacant house block to preserve some of the last and best remaining examples of indigenous understorey flora in Ringwood. Council last week negotiated a $48,000 purchase price for the triangular shaped block at the end of Debbie Place, next to B.J. Hubbard Reserve, which had been advertised for sale.

A recent report in The Post on a health blitz aimed at local food retailers has caused a shift in community attitudes towards food quality standards. Last week the City of Ringwood's Environmental Health Department was flooded with concerned consumers who had dozens of examples of food purchased which was in an unsatisfactory state.
