Guest Presenter Dennis Johnston was named 2023 Maroondah Citizen of the Year for his long-standing involvement with and contribution to Biala, Ringwood. This organisation is dedicated to providing support and care for special needs children and their family.

Ringwood CWA was formed on 7th March in 1946 in the small town hall, with 65 Foundation members. Even in the first meeting, there was a competition for the best scones and tomatoes. The consensus was to meeting monthly on the first Thursday. In this presentation, Lorraine Zimmerman talks of the history and some of the activities of Ringwood's CWA branch.

Two catalogues of goods to sell, from Ringwood Timber & Trading

Editorial of 15201b includes a short history of the company. In 1937, Mr S Coopersmith and son, Frank (the present Managing Director) started a fruit case manufacturing business in North Melbourne under the name of The Cooper Case Co. The business flourished, and in 1940, recognising the possibilities in and around Ringwood, an old bush sawmill and an area of land on the Maroondah Highway, were secured. Subsequent purchases have since increased this area to approximately 15 acres. It was decided to widen the activities and scope of the business and two new firms were formed. Cooper Sawmilling Co., which operated a modern sawmill, and Ringwood Timber & Trading Co., which handled the output of the sawmill and introduced builders' and general hardware lines to meet the demands of this rapidly expanding area. As Ringwood grew, so too did the organisation which was created to serve it. The principals studied timber and hardware merchandising trends overseas, and after considerable investigation the new building on Maroondah Highway was completed in 1956. Today, acclaimed as one of the most modern mills and hardware stores in the Southern Hemisphere, combining up to date machinery and handling equipment together with unique drive-in facilities and a self-selection centre. Blue postmarked Airmail/Air Letter from Grand Council, O.S.M. London, dated 13th April, 1959 to A.J.B. Aird regarding accepting the Office of Past Grand Standard Bearer and ability to attend the Grand Conclave Meeting for Investiture on 13th June, 1959, at the Cafe Royal, London.

Clearance certificate and covering letter - Brother Alan Aubrey Williams, Master Mason, ceased to be a member of Prince of Wales Mark Lodge No.8 under the United Grand Lodge of Antient, Free and Accepted Masons of Victoria and is clear of all dues. Dated at St.Kilda on 31st March, 1943. Covering letter addressed to Brother Williams signed by Norman Wright, Secretary, 12th April, 1942.

Clearance certificate - Allan Aubrey Williams, Master Mason, ceased to be a member of United Grand Lodge of Antient, Free and Accepted Masons of Victoria and is clear of all dues. Dated at North Carlton on 21 February, 1928.

Certification that Brother Arthur James Bromwich Aird, being properly qualified as a Mark Master Mason and Royal Arch Mason, was - (a) duly acknowledged as a Most Excellent Master, and (b) received and greeted as a Royal Select and Super Excellent Master - in the Melbourne Council No. 56 on 1st November, 1955 & recommended to the notice, attention and protection of all illustrious and well beloved companions throughout the globe.

Senior Maroondah Council planning officers remain undeterred.by a likely delay in implementing the city's draft planning scheme. Council last week moved to ask Planning and Local Government Minister Rob Maclellan to appoint an independent panel to discuss submissions on its draft scheme, released for public comment last July.

A recount of votes in Loughnan's Hill Ward failed to overturn the result in the most hotly contested ward of last weekend's first Maroondah Council elections.Despite attracting only 1014 first preference votes - fourth highest - Joe Cossari went on to win Loughnan's Hill by 247 votes from former Ringwood councillor Yvonne Kaukas after preference votes recorded by six other candidates were distributed.
