Plaque reads: IN THIS YEAR, 1974, WHEN AUSTRALIA IS CELEBRATING THE BI-CENTENARY OF THE BIRTH OF THAT GREAT NAVIGATOR AND CATOGRAPHER, MATTHEW FLINDERS, IT IS FITTING THAT WE ALSO COMMEMORATE THE LABOUR OF RINGWOOD'S FIRST SETTLERS WHO FOLLOWED THE DISCOVERERS, EXPLORERS & SURVEYORS, CLEARED THE FORESTED HILLS AND PLOUGHED THE HARD GROUND BEFORE PLANTING THEIR ORCHARDS.
