- OBITUARY The Dandenong Journal (Vic. : 1927 - 1954) Thu 28 Mar 1935 Page 5 At Hopetoun, on the 6th inst., the death of the Rev. Frank Girdler, aged 55 years, happened, and the populace were profoundly sorrowful at the loss of a fine citizen and a man loved by all. He served with the Third Light Horse Field Ambulance in Palestine, and on his return he was associated in various parishes of the Ballarat diocese, and from 1933 was vicar of the Hopetoun-Beulah charge. Deceased was an active member of the R.S.A., Masonic Lodge, the C.E.M.S., and A.N.A., and much sympathy has been conveyed from, the fraternities. The burial service was conducted by the Ven. Arch-deacon Best, and at the graveside were assembled 14 vicars of parishes. The soldiers dropped red poppies of Flanders on the grave, and the Last Post was sounded. The residents of the town and district visited in large numbers, and paid their respects to one so dear. The rev. gentleman was a relative of the Girdler and Vincent families, of St. John’s avenue, and sympathy is felt towards them.
