This pipe has been made by William White of Glasgow, Scotland, a firm that was producing this type of pipe throughout the 19th century. Pipe smoking for men was prevalent in the 19th century and early to mid 20th century but is no longer a popular pastime.

Significance

This pipe has no known provenance but it is an interesting object from the past and is retained for display purposes.

Physical description

This is a white clay pipe. Part of the stem has been broken off.
