Historical information

These cameras were made in Japan by the Canon Company which dates from the 1930s. Canon cameras were, and still are very popular as they are compact and have a simple ‘point and shot’ mechanism. The taking of family photographs has been a hobby for over 100 years.

Significance

These cameras have no known local provenance but are retained for display purposes.

Physical description

.1 This is a Canon Elph Camera. It is rectangular in shape and mainly silver-coloured with a black lens. A black cord for holding the camera is attached. The camera is in a grey cloth bag.
.2 This is a Canon Sprint camera. It is rectangular in shape and has a black body. A black cord for holding the camera is attached. The camera is in a buff-coloured cloth bag. This is slightly scuffed.
