Hard fawn coloured cover with dotted cross lines dispersed overall. There is a blue leather binding strap & 2 eyelets on spine. Pages are black cardboard with 2 photos per page. The pages have worked loose due to no binding cord. There is white handwriting adjacent to each photo. Subjects include Jerusalem religious buildings, Tel Aviv, beach scenes, Australian soldiers on leave, Palestine farm labourers, Tiberias local people.
Books were used as references for aircraft spotter on the home front and in battle during WW2.

This is a collection of five photographs taken at the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment, Fortuna Villa, Bendigo, circa 1950s to 1960s. Appearing in photo .3P is MAJ Edward Anderson MBE, who served from 1942 to 1977 and reached the rank of LTCOL. LT Frank Thorogood SB St J. served from 1960 to 1981. He reached the rank of LTCOL and was the CO of the Army Survey Regiment from 1980 to 1981. CAPT W. Greer’s service history is unknown. Appearing in photo .5P is MAJ Nolan, who served from 1939 to 1975. He was promoted to LTCOL and was the CO of the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment from 1965 to 1969. He was subsequently promoted to COL and was the Director of Military Survey from 1972 to 1975.

These two photographs were taken at Bones Day, an annual sports competition between the Army Survey Regiment and the RAAF School of Radio in 1969. The two units took turns each year to host the event and on this occasion was held at the RAAF School of Radio, Laverton. The day competition usually comprised basketball, cross country, golf, sailing, squash, softball, tennis, touch football, rifle shooting, tug-of-war and volleyball. The “big bone” trophy comprising a large bone from a beast housed inside a wooden framed glass case, was awarded to the winner of the day competition. The evening competition often included darts, carpet bowls, hookey, quoits and billiards/snooker. The “little bone” (a mounted chicken bone) was the consolation trophy awarded to the winner of the evening competition. The 3-hour bus trip for the visiting unit on their return was typically very raucous. The history of the Bones Day competition is best described in the booklet titled - Bones of Contention Souvenir Program. 1965. Refer to Item 6267. The winner of the two trophies in 1969 is not known. MAJ Donald Ridge was probably on this occasion was the 2IC of the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment, He was subsequently promoted to the rank of LTCOL was the CO of the unit from 1972 to 1973; and continued as the CO of the renamed Army Survey Regiment from 1974 to 1975. He served from 1946 to 1975.
