Historical
Free transport for Sunday returns between Stony Point & Cowes, for winter months of June, July and August. Phillip Island has miles of woodland roads where the friendly Koalas may be seen from the car with the glorious colour effects on a typical winter day with a mild atmosphere and brilliant sunshine.

Photograph of Surgeon George Bass who came ashore on Phillip Island on the morning of January 5th 1798
At seven o'clock on the morning of January 5th 1798 the famous British navigator Surgeon George Bass stepped ashore on Phillip Island and became the first known white man ever to do so. He had sailed from Sydney in an open whaleboat with six able seamen. Of this voyage by Bass, Matthew Flinders said, "It had probably no equal in the annals of maritime history."

Warley was a not for profit bush nursing hospital in Cowes for 84 years. It was closed due to lack of funds in 2008.

Built to commemorate the discovery of Westernport by George Bass 4th January, 1798. Visits followed by Lieut James Grant March 1801, Lieut John Murray December 1801. The French under Capt. Baudin April, 1802 and Capt D'Urville November 1826. Also the establishment of a temporary British settlement (For Dumaresq) December 1826.
