Reverend John Blacker was ordained as Methodist minister in 1960 and served at Monbulk, Dandenong (Lyndale), Kilmore/Broadford, Kerang, Sunshine Mission, Moonee Ponds and Norwood Crescent Moonee Ponds. After serving in the Uniting Church, he resigned from the ministry and established a para-church organisation. He was a central figure in the charismatic renewal of the Uniting Church in the 1970s while serving at Sunshine and Moonee Ponds.
