Domestic object - Coal Scuttle, Late 19th Century

Historical information

The coal scuttle was used for holding and carrying a small supply of coal which would be used in an indoor coal-filled stove or heater. The top is slanted which allows the coal to be poured onto the fire. This particular type was also referred to as a Dutch copper scuttle due to the blue and white Delft-style Dutch porcelain handles on the top and back of the scuttle
