Significance

This photograph is a pictorial record of typical women's fashion in the mid 20th century when women's dresses were were modest, revealing very little skin, compared to today’s fashion. Squared shoulders, narrow hips, and skirts that ended just below the knee were the height of fashion. Tailored suits were also quite popular. Generally older women wore hats, gloves and jewellery.
