Historical information

The huts along the railway line were built to house 'navvies' who worked on and maintained the Bendigo-Echuca railway line. At the time this photo was taken, work was being undertaken on the railway line in the Sunbury area.

Significance

The Bendigo-Echuca was one of Victoria's earliest government owned and operated regional rail systems. It was an important link with the river traffic along the Murray and Melbourne.
