Summary
This work, Le Morte d'Arthur, was originally finished around 1469–1470 and is the definitive English compilation of the legends of King Arthur. Written in Middle English prose, it weaves together diverse French and British source materials into a single cohesive epic. It follows Arthur from his miraculous birth and pulling the sword from the stone, through the golden age of the Round Table and the Quest for the Holy Grail, to the tragic collapse of the kingdom fueled by the love affair between Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere.
