The hose was built by Edward Simmons. Edward and his brother W.E. were the largest share holders in the Oriental Mine.
Edward Simmons was one of the first Trustees of the School of mines, also Shire President 1890-1891. This building was used by many people as a home after World War 2.
It became the club rooms for the Stawell Branch RSS & AILA still remails so.
The initial first and second floor balconies with balustrade are now demolished.
