He enlisted No 3142 age 25 years in the 8th reinforcements 60th Bn AIF on 25.9.1916, embarked for England 16.12.1916, disembarked 16.2.1917, to hospital 18.2.1917, discharged 24.2.1917, attends Signal School Codford, posted on strength A.A.M.C 18.12.1917, embark for France 27.12.1917, posted to staff SMO 15.6.1918, disembark England 18.1.1919, RTA 10.4.1919, Discharged from the AIF 8.8.1919.

Three letters from Joseph Stanley Ferris.
.1) Letter hand written in ink dated 31.10.1916 from Domain Camp Melbourne on light brown YMCA stationary.
.2) Letter hand written in ink dated Dec 30th 1917 from France on yellowed Australian Military Church stationary.
.3) Typed document re the award of the DFC to Capt Reginald George David Francis. At bottom in pencil a short note from Stanley re the award.
