Debate over the level of support Ringwood Council should give to schools fighting closure led to one successful and one unsuccessful motion on Monday night's council meeting. Cr Nick Kirmos and Cr Neil McDonald were the instigators of the two motions. Cr Kirmos' motion was successful and Cr McDonald's was not.

Communication lines between residents and Ringwood Council or even Councillors have not always been straightforward and clear cut. Ms Tessa Melland suggested that concerned people should maybe form an association which led to the formation of Ringwood Residents' and Ratepayers' Association. "I see it as being a communications forum where people can get together and discuss things locally, things they want to change or initiate", Ms Melland said.

The line from Hawthorn to Camberwell opened on 3 April, 1882, Camberwell to Lilydale opened on 1 December, 1882. Box Hill, Ringwood and Croydon stations opened on 1 December, 1882. Croydon was originally called Warrandyte station until the name was changed to Croydon on 1 August, 1884. Nunawading was originally called Tunstall and opened on 4 June, 1888. The name was changed to Nunawading on 1 November, 1945.

Newspaper articles detailing the gift of 17 acres of land south end of New Street, by Frank Pike of Heatherdale Road, for parkland. The new park will be called Pomona Park. It was later called Proclamation Park, used for athletics, baseball and cricket.
Various newspaper articles about detals of the acquisition, by Ringwood Council, of 40 acres of land for Jubilee Park, formerly known as Sanders Estate, for recreation purposes in 1945-1959. The area included named streets - Prussia Road (not West Prussia Road), Duffy Street, Ireland Street, Evens Street and Chapman Street.

Two newspaper articles, re the fight to save tree near Ringwood Timber on Maroondah Highway, late 1950s. The Yellow Box tree was located west of Ringwood timber, outside Bill Patterson's Motors near the New Street intersection. The fight was led by Cr Ben Hubbard, the secretary of the Ringwood Horticultural Society, Mr Kearsley, but was eventually lost. The articles are from The Herald and dated December 1957 and 11th June 1959.

Retiring Councillor Robin Gardini has hit out at Ringwood Council after announcing his retirement. After 15 years service, Cr Gardini complained that the calibre of persons coming in is highly political. Another retiring Councillor, Leo Dineen said the way meetings were conducted contributed to his retirement. "The disruptive conditions are not in the best interests of people", he said.

Merger of Ringwood and Croydon is becoming increasingly likely following talks late last week between the region's councils.And Croydon, which has doggedly turned its back on Ringwood, softened its approach at Friday's meeting in a bid to get self managed on a regionally agreed basis, chief executive Terry Maher said on Monday.

While Ringwood Council is still officially keeping silent on the amalgamation issue, seven of the nine councillors contacted by the Ringwood-Croydon Mail spoke out. They had mixed views on the priciple and the timing of the issues involved.

Proposed Improvements to Ringwood Park (Ringwood Lake) dated 14 January 1927, signed Cr McCaskill. Main Road is Whitehorse Road (Maroondah Highway), and Mt Dandenong Road is incorrectly labelled Whitehorse Road. The map shows Rosedale Crescent and Railway Parade, both of which exist in 2024. On the bottom of the map, south of the railway line, showing proposed streets - Graham Road, Anderson Street and Adams Street - in preparation for the sale of the Theo Anderson property. That area is now Bedford Park.
