Functional object - Clothes Peg, 1900 - 1940

Historical information

These pegs were made in England by gypsies, and called :'gypsie peg.', and called 'Gypsie Peg). Sold by calling at Rouse's and exchanging Gypsy Pegx:' for any old clothes and and a slice of bread and cheese.

Physical description

Wooden peg made from a semi-split twig - whittled on ends and bound with a small metal circular band around the top. Also known as a Gypsy Peg.
