Cutting from 'The Age' Friday 5 December 1997 regarding the Mitcham by-election to be conducted on Saturday 13 December brought on by the resignation of Roger Pescott over the issue of the Kennett Government's restructuring of the office of the Auditor-General. Mitcham is being seen as the litmus-test electorate, and the result will influence the rest of the government's term. Gambling is a key issue in the forthcoming election.
