In 1914, Captain Charles and Mary Matheson purchased an orchard in Springvale Road, Forest Hill. Her husband served with the Navy leaving Mary responsible for the orchard for 40 years. She supported the Presbyterian Church and donated land to establish the Strathdon Community.
