John Wakefield Snr. came to Australia in 1852 as a crewman on a ship, and his wife Elizabeth and children John, Anne, Tom and George came out to Australia in 1954. In 1859 John Jnr. married Rhoda Hartnett. They purchased land and a cottage on Springfield Village Estate, Blackburn North.
