Historical information
The Mitcham Post Office was erected in 1924 as a large double-storied brick residence with two shops facing Whitehorse Road. In the larger shop Bertha and Patrick Markham operated a mixed newsagency business and the local Post office. Bertha Markham was appointed Postmistress. Patrick Markham put himself forward as a candidate for the Mitcham Riding in 1914 but was defeated by 34 votes
