The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as the 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection.'
It is significant in being the first community sourced collection representing the places and people of the Shire's first one hundred years.

- WARRANDYTE AND THE UPPER YARRA. (1897, August 14). Leader (Melbourne, Vic. : 1862 - 1918, 1935), p. 7 "Another dam is now being built across the river facing the township by Messrs Lewis Bros. This work is 175 feet at its widest and will enable the miners of Warrandyte and the surrounding districts 'to get their stone crushed at a reasonable rate. The dam consists of red box triangles, with a ballast of 20 feet of stone blasted from the range, and up to a height of 5 feet. A race is also being erected at the side of the river with a wheel 15 feet diameter and 6 feet breast manufactured by Thompson 's foundry, Castlemaine. When completed it will be the equal to driving a 50-head battery. The whole plans and machinery have been carried out by Mr E.P. Lewis, Manager for Thompson's Foundry, at a cost of about £900. The dam is being built by Mr William Peters of Melbourne who erected the Goulburn Weir. The triangles are bolted and let down on the bed rock of the river, which will prevent any flood ever washing it away."
