Historical information

The postcard depicts the Beechworth State School No 1560 with a large group of students and teachers gathered in front of the main building.
The school first opened in 1875, constructed to the designs used for the Competition School in North Melbourne and was the prototype used for five other schools. It still retains much of its form and decoration with surrounding pines that were planted by the school children until the late 1930's.

Significance

This postcard is historically significant as it offers an insight of the attending students and staff during the early twentieth century.
