Historical information

Railways began in the 1850s and were privately owned and operated. Later they were taken over by the Victorian Government
reaching a peak in the early 1940s.Steam trains were followed by electric trains with both running after the war in 1945.

Significance

Bright was the closest station to the Kiewa Valley but road transport was used more often as the Kiewa Valley Highway was improved with the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. To travel to Melbourne or Sydney by train residents went via Wodonga/Albury where they also did their shopping.
