Historical information

Donald Victor BLACK, gardener, served and died as a result of WW11 service, an oak tree in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens is dedicated to him, 19th March 1944.

Donald V. Black was highly regarded as a gardener in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens before he saw action in the Middle East and New Guinea during World War 2. The dedication and plaque in his memory attests to one of the many sad stories of a young man lost to his family, the work he loved and his home city.
