Historical information

A cabochon is a gemstone that has been cut, shaped and polished. The resulting gem has a convex (rounded) obverse with a flat reverse. This method is usually applied to opaque gems such as this pair of agates. Cabochons are most commonly used in the design of pendants or rings. These cabochons are part of the jewellery collection of Mrs. Jean Raper.
