This image was one of a series taken by Harold Millane in the late 1940's. They were printed onto post cards. Mary Millane, Harold's wife, printed captions on each negative with Indian ink. The series includes a variety of views of Mitcham, Vermont, Nunawading, Park Orchards and Doncaster East. The post cards were sold as souvenirs in the Millane shop on the N-E corner of Station Street and Whitehorse Road, Mitcham (originally the Mitcham Post Office).

A house on the site was originally owned by successful businessman , Joseph Tweedle before being sold to the government. For many years it was the Winlaton Training Centre for girls. When the institution was closed the buildings were demolished and the land subdivided for housing.
