The three girls, from Bulla Primary School, were on a school excursion to the sailing ship, Polly Woodside, which was moored along the south bank of the Yarra River in Melbourne. They are looking at the ship's bell which according to the information on its side was cast in 1885.

Significance

On this excursion the children were introduced to aspects of sea travel in a bygone era.
