Part of Birmingham Collection, donated by the Family of Misses Mary and Edith Maude Graham, of 4 Blair Street, Portland.
Bed caps were worn in the 1800s to keep the head warm. However, in the early 1900s silk caps became popular to protect hairstyles . They were though to improve the health of hair.

Cream silk cap, edged with cream lace with green embroidery.
Gathered at crown.
