Maretimo was built in around 1854 for John McLeod. It was purchased by Robert Matheson in 1874 with the next owner being Hugh Campbell in 1895. In 1925 sisters Eleanor Downing and Edith Smith bought the home and lived there. They operated a summer guest house.
