Historical information

Corporate gift giving plays a large part in national and international diplomacy. Visiting representatives from regions around the world present gifts as a symbol of friendship and cooperation. Often these gifts reflect cultural practices such as arts and crafts as with this woven basket. The donor for this object was not recorded.

Physical description

Large tote style basket woven from natural fibres (possibly straw or palm leaves) with two short handles. 60 cm decorative woven band in lighter colour near top. Slim style not suitable for carrying large objects.

Inscriptions & markings

Handwritten tag made from brown card attached to basket with twine reads 'Craig Niemann'.
