Amy Tsilemanis: Later in the thirties, William Leslie Talkie Bell came to town. And by 1935, he was running the Lyric Talkies there, which he did for a number of decades. Jan Lewis: The movies were run by Talkie Bell when we were young. And I remember we had, Dad had a car, it was a green Ford custom line. And it so happened that Talkie had exactly the same looking car, model and colour. And Dad had the car up the street, for buying something at the hardware or somewhere, I suppose. And nobody ever locked their cars in those days. So he comes back to get in the car, and here's the note saying, Four tickets for tonight, Talkie. So, he wasn't quite sure what to do about that, so we just hope whoever it was did get their four seats. Glenda Whelan: When I was younger we used to have movies at the Mechanics' every Saturday night, and it was really the only social occasion apart from football and netball, and at interval, everyone would pour out and go down to the Blue Bird Cafe and spend their 20 cents on mixed lollies, and then come back, watch the main feature. Ad voiceover: Come and try the Bluebird Cafe, Collingwood Street, Apollo Bay, for an excellent three course meal, superior accommodation, grills at all hours, afternoon teas, ice cream, drinks and confectionary. Proprietors Miss M. Stewart and F. Telford. Phone 255 today.
