The newspaper was excavated from the sub-floor of the Administrative Wing and was located next to a a man's black leather boot (P00.002). Although there are no direct relationship between the two items (P00.001 & P00.002), the discovery if a discarded boot and a newspaper dated to the year if the building completed construction (January 2ed, 1872), within the context of a sealed sub-floor deposit could be evidence of ritual behaviour. Although less frequently documented in Australia, builder's and foundation deposits are commonly found in Europe, reflecting a tradition of secular building consecration dating back to the Medieval and Roman Periods. , 280 William Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
