Ploughshare

Historical information

The ploughshare cuts grass and soil loosening or turning the soil before sowing seed or planting. Ploughs were drawn by oxen and horses. Now drawn by tractors.

Significance

Farmers in the Kiewa Valley used ploughs before tractors became available.

Physical description

Formerly KV 060. Made of steel and a component of a plough. It is the cutting or leading edge of a mouldboard which closely follows the coulter wen ploughing.
