Historical information

W & T Avery England commenced in 1818 and the company continued until 1979. The scales were used to measure the weight of goods from or at a store.

Significance

A balance scale used by a resident in the Kiewa Valley eg. a merchant or grocer

Physical description

Brass coloured metal scales with removable, rectangular, flat tray and three weights.There is a central balance indicator.

Inscriptions & markings

Printed on the front: "Sole Agents / W & T Avery ' (Australia) Pty Ltd"
Embossed on the top - left hand side "Avery" and Right hand side "To Weigh 2 lb"
"These cale and the weight / dupplied for use fortheith / illegible.. Office purposes"
