Handwritten notes mentioning Bendigo's Hawkers. One was an Indian, Mahomet Tux and the other was a Chinese man who sold feather dusters. Mentioned are the memories of the Indian Hawkers and their goods and the family buying from them.

Joseph Anderson Panton migrated to Sydney in 1851 and went to the Port Phillip District. After farming briefly at Mangalore, he tried for gold without success at Mount Alexander. In 1852 Panton was appointed assistant commissioner at Kangaroo Gully, near Bendigo, senior assistant commissioner at Bendigo in 1853 and senior commissioner in 1854.
