Hand written medical records
Tradition commenced in December 1969 by Von Clinch, charge sister of Ward 3 at the time. Who placed a dummy dressed as Santa Claus at the entrance to ward three. It was decided that a medical record needed to be kept.Origional UR was 251269, later changed to 999995.
These medical records are significant to the Alfred Hospital Nurses League, because many members helped with creation of these files

Was presented to Mrs Lucie Hallenstein, honorary secretary of Alfred Hospital combine auxiliaries c. 1920. Mrs Hallenstein's Granddaughter Jane Helena Walters nee Shannon trainee of Alfred Hospital 1948-1951 presented the box to the nursing achieves with a hand written letter of explanation on 28/04/2011. Paper card insert is signed by Louisa Mann who was matron from 1912-1928.
Item is significant as it was presented from Louisa Mann. Item also carries the Maltese cross from the Alfred hospital insignia. Has been presented to the archive from Alfred Hospital trainee.
Handcrafted wooden box with parquetry Maltese cross in center. Box is made with multiple timber types and shades, is finished with a gloss finish. Two brass hinges allow the box to open. Hand written note on buff card paper with sticky tape holding item together enclosed within on small card from Louisa Mann stating "Affectionate Xmas greetings from Louisa Mann Alfred Hospital" Four rubber stoppers on base, eight screws visible on base holding wood together Black text marking on underside of box 392/02.3 White sticker with black ink marking 392/02+3

Often used to support a leg when sitting out of bed. Also used when plastering a leg. Elevation of the limb to prevent swelling. Likely made on site by engineering team as there are no manufacturers markings.
Stained timber, mid brown, 4 piece pyramidal shape, scoop for leg rest out of block at top. Horizontal stability panel. Assembled with nails, v shape cut out at base of side panels

This brick was part of a group of brick that were salvaged during demolition of the main Alfred Hospital Nurses Home on 5 August, 1996.
This brick and others from this group are significant to the Alfred Hospital Nurses League as many members lived there during their training and there was much controversy around the demolition of the building.
