Historical information

The two storey building is the Royal Hotel which replaced an earlier single storey building that was destroyed by fire in 1935. It stood on a corner at the intersection of Brook and Evans Street. The new hotel was completed and opened in 1939 on the same site and still functions as a hotel today.

Significance

The Royal Hotel was has occupied the same site in Sunbury's shopping strip for 163 years.
