Metal fragment, Metal Fragment with Chinese Characters

Historical information

Found at Wet Flat ("Chinaman's Flat") near Linton, an area once occupied by many Chinese miners.
This object was once thought to have been the lid of a container (possibly one used for storing snuff) and it is sometimes referred to as the "Chinese tin lid".

Physical description

Small, flat, rectangular piece of metal on which Chinese characters have been inscribed. It is understood that the fragment may once have been part of a container used to store tea leaves or spices. Three characters are inscribed, the top one is indecipherable due to wear, the middle one denotes a place (Candong province in China), the third denotes a successful business.
