Historical information
The sailing ship was the symbol of the Pilots, the children's organisation of the Congregational Union and London Missionary Society.
Physical description
Congregational Minister's black stole with black fringing at each end. The stole has two round silk embroidered applique badges of a sailing ship at each end. The ship is brown and is on a royal blue sea with a pale blue sky. The sails are detailed in gold thread and the badge has a gold braid border. The badges are obviously old and have been taken off something else. They have a purple backing.
