The Flinders Street building is part of an international network where sailors knew they could find similar services. Amongst them, reading material (a library, newspapers), the ability to receive and write letters and postcards.
Significance
Rare early postcard of the Flinders Street building depicting seamen writing letters in the Writing Room, located between the main hall and the Billiard Room with a written message from a sailor.
