Award - Emu egg trophy

Historical information

Emu egg goblet presented to Mr F.A. Stratford who was the manager of the first bank in Williamstown, the E.S. & A. Bank (opened 21/3/1854). He was elected, with Chas Ferguson, as assessor to the first Williamstown Council in 1856. He was suceeded as Bank Manager by William Dempster in 1860.

Physical description

Presentation goblet - emu egg mounted on a silver base. The emu egg is lined with silver gilt, the goblet has stylised roses on the base, and vine leaves encircling the stem. Attributed to William Edwards.

Inscriptions & markings

Around the rim: "Presented TO F.A. STRATFORD.ESQ AS A MARK OF ESTEEM & REGARD WILLIAMSTOWN FEB 9TH 1861"
