The people in Sunbury were celebrating the end of World War 1. They gathered at the junction of Stawell, Brook and O'Shanassy Streets and around the Starkey Fountain which was the original site of the fountain.
The World War 1 Armistice was an important world event and was celebrated in many countries in 1918 - 1919.
