Historical information

Made from water proof materials and used to carry supplies and equipment for firemen. Designed to protect the contents in all weather and to be as comfortable and practical as possible enabling the firemen to go into bush that fire trucks couldn't access.

Significance

The Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme was constructed on the Bogong High Plains, in the bush where bush fires were common especially after a storm with lightening.

Physical description

Canvas back packs with a flap at the front and 2 straps at the back. The sides have a wooden stick with a zig zag webbing attached.

On the flap of each - printed in black:
