A slightly singed black and white photograph of the laying of the foundation stone at the Holeproof factory in Dods St., Brunswick in January 1930. Identified in a (contemporary) typed label as '…[James S]cullin Prime Minister laying Foundation Holeproof. Brunswick.' James Scullin, Prime Minister from 1929-32 is in the foreground looking left. The first hosiery mill began on the site in 1924 as Staley and Staley Ltd, run by Andrew Grey Staley and his uncle Dan Staley. Holeproof stopped production in 2009/10 and by 2013 the site had been converted into an apartment complex. Part of the Dollman Collection.
