Historical information
Redbyrne Potteries was established in 1975 and was located at 225 Old Dookie Rd, Shepparton, Victoria. It was originally a pear orchard, and Robert Waterson used a tree form in the stamp from early 1976. Soon after Redbyrne Potteries was established Robert Waterson resigned from teaching, enlarged the premises and added kilns and clay making machines. Potters were employed to make functional stoneware to his design, and it became the largest producer of hand-thrown pottery in Victoria.
Redbyrne potters included Gilbert Buchanan, Chris Cheer, Graeme Day, Mark Lepp, Steven Elliott, Robert Henderson, Cathy Thompson, Noel Townsend and Craig Willis. Items are impressed 'Redbyrne Potteries Shepparton' and the mark may also include the individual thrower's name. Before closing in 2002, the business had started specialising in garden and nursery products.
