Historical information

During the 1800s and 1890s, three butter factories were established in Sunbury to support the local dairy industry. Farmers from the surrounding areas brought their cream to the factories to be processed into butter. the butter was sold as Empire Butter. Sunbury Secondary College, in Riddell Road, now occupies the site of the former Rupertswood Butter Factory.

Significance

Dairy farming was an important agricultural industry in the Sunbury area for almost 150 years.

Physical description
