Physical description

A tan hardcover book The Education Department's Record of War Service, Victoria 1914 - 1919 printed in gold lettering on the front cover with an outline of a symbol of a crest, with a crown and five stars. The title page has the title, crest and a large black outlined illustration of an angel holding a sword and placing a laurel wreath onto the head of a soldier from the First World War kneeling in front of two children below him; a girl knitting and a boy holding a toy. The 1914 and 1919 numbers are below above the VED crest letters inside a circle. There is a presentation page at the front dedicacting the book to Sgt Francis H. Francis Sebire. A Foreword explains the meaning of the included records. A loose photocopy at the front of the book is of a page of four photographs of enlisted soldiers, including Sgt Francis H. Sebire Ob. 20.11.1916. On pp.87 and 88 there is a photo of Francis and information about his enlistment and teaching. Pp 304.

'This book, published to keep before teachers and children examples of service and sacrifice, is presented to the next of Kin of Sgt Francis H. Sebire A teacher in this Department, be at the call of King and Country, voluntarily enlisted for service in the Great War, and gave his life in our cause.' A payer follows.
