The buildings in the photograph part of the Sunbury Primary School complex at Jackson Hill. In 1999, Sunbury Primary School No.1002 ceased occupying the red brick Federation building where it had operated for 86 years. The historic Industrial School buildings in the former Sunbury Asylum grounds were restored for the relocation of the Sunbury Primary and Sunbury Special Schools. This photograph is a view of the outdoor playing area. with the school buildings in the background.
Significance
A state school has been in operation in Sunbury since 1873 and over the years has been in three different buildings. Two of them were on the corner of Stawell and Macedon Streets and the most recent one is in Jackson Hill.
